I am facilitating my first in-person writing workshop since the pandemic on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Peterborough Public Library. The workshop, titled Imagining a Better Future, runs from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
Although this will be the first time I lead this particular workshop, the idea of tapping into the power of storytelling to create the future we want is not new to me. To understand my thoughts on this topic, you might find the following posts helpful:
- Hopeful Narratives: Transforming Our Future with Imagination,
- The Failure of Dystopian Literature, and
- Tolkien’s Eucatastrophic Tale: A Lifeline for Today’s Youth.
One of the goals of this 90-minute workshop is to help participants release their inhibitions, and have some fun with writing. As well, it’s meant to foster their ability to imagine a positive future for themselves, their community and the planet.
Participants will write throughout the workshop and share their writing if they feel comfortable. They will also leave with practical tools and techniques designed to help them make writing a regular part of their lives. Finally, the workshop aims to lift their spirits and engender more hope for the future.
Over the course of the workshop, I’ll be pulling from all of my areas of expertise as a writer, teacher, consulting hypnotist, and mindful living coach. Techniques such as calming exercises, visualizations, and prompt-driven, timed-writing sessions will be used to ensure participants access the full potential of their imaginations.
At the writing of this post, two spots remained open. However, as of July 15, all spots were taken.
